Excuses People Give to Avoid Cocaine Addiction Rehab and How to Negate Them

Although it has declined in recent years, cocaine addiction is still a major problem in the United States. Many people believe it to be a rich person’s drug but it is pervasive throughout the classes and races. Rehab for cocaine addiction still carries a stigma to it and many people do not want to give up their cocaine use. There are a few very common excuses you can familiarize yourself with and a few ways that you can negate them.

I am Not Addicted to Cocaine, Why Would I go to Rehab

This is the most common excuse or reason. Very few people want to admit that they need help with their addiction. It is a difficult thing to realize when you are lying to yourself about something but what this is, is a lie. Cocaine is a highly addictive drug and if you have used it more than once you are probably addicted.

How to Negate This

This is actually very easy to negate. Proof of cocaine addiction comes in many signs. Some of them are:

  • Frequent nose bleeds
  • Dilated pupils
  • Runny nose
  • Track marks
  • Euphoria
  • Overconfidence
  • Delusions
  • Hallucinations
  • Paranoia
  • Poor judgment

More than one of these signs usually indicates a problem. If you are dealing with someone using cocaine or who is addicted to cocaine wait until they are not on the drug to mention it.

I can Handle the Cocaine Addiction on my Own, I don’t Need Help

This is also a common excuse. Most people cannot simple end a cocaine addiction. It is not just a psychological addiction. It is a physical one.

How to Negate This

Simply explain that cocaine addiction is both physical and mental and you would not be mentioning it if it were not a problem. That their behavior or some other consequence has become a problem.

I am in Control of my Cocaine Addiction

People who have a cocaine addiction are not in control of it. You cannot control an addiction it controls you.

How to Negate This

Explain that addiction controls you. You are never in control of it. When the addiction causes a serious problem such as a legal one it is easier to negate that they are in control but if not you can explain exactly what addiction is. Addiction is a disease of the brain that is ultimately chronic.

I use Cocaine When I am Stressed

Cocaine creates more stress not less. Cocaine is a stimulant which means that it makes you more energetic. It does not relieve stress at all.

How to Negate This

All you have to do is learn some stress reduction techniques that really work such as yoga or relaxation techniques. There are many places to learn these. Most rehab centers teach primary stress reduction techniques to their clients. Meditation also works but this takes practice and is sometimes guided.
